Urinary Nanoprobe Detects Therapy-Induced Senescence in Lung Cancer, Fibrosis

Cellular senescence, a state of irreversible cell cycle arrest, is a key factor in the pathology of age-related conditions, including non-small-cell lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis [1]. In oncology, senescent cells can promote tumor progression and confer resistance to therapy, while in fibrotic diseases, they drive tissue remodeling and scarring [2, 3, 4]. Managing these conditions is complicated by the lack of noninvasive methods to track the burden of senescent cells over time, as current diagnostics often rely on invasive biopsies or imaging like FDG PET/CT, which are not suited for frequent monitoring [5, 6]. A recent study introduces a strategy for noninvasive surveillance of senescence in lung disease through a simple urine test.
