CircPCMTD1 Peptide Regulates DNA Damage Response in BCR/ABL1-Positive Leukemias

Acute myeloid leukemia and other BCR/ABL1-positive myeloid leukemias are a heterogeneous group of malignancies that present complex management challenges [1, 2]. While the advent of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has significantly improved outcomes, the frequent emergence of resistance mechanisms limits their long-term effectiveness, creating a pressing need for alternative therapeutic strategies [3, 4, 5]. This has intensified the search for new molecular targets, particularly within pathways that cancer cells co-opt for survival, such as the DNA damage response (DDR) [6, 7, 8]. Concurrently, research has begun to illuminate the role of non-coding RNAs, including stable circular RNAs, in oncogenesis [9]. A recent study now provides a detailed mechanistic link between a specific circular RNA and the survival of BCR/ABL1-positive leukemic cells, identifying a potential molecular dependency that could be exploited therapeutically.
