Somatic Symptoms, Sensory Dysregulation Are Core to PTSD Presentation

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) continues to present a significant clinical challenge, as a substantial proportion of patients experience persistent symptoms and incomplete remission despite available treatments [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. While conventional therapeutic approaches have largely focused on the cognitive and emotional processing of traumatic memories, a growing body of evidence indicates that somatic symptoms and sensory dysregulation are not peripheral phenomena but are central to the disorder's pathophysiology [6]. This perspective suggests a necessary re-evaluation of how PTSD is conceptualized, diagnosed, and treated, highlighting the need for interventions that address the full spectrum of trauma's impact on an individual's physiological and sensory experience.
